Christ St. John Baptist Church
Christ St. John Baptist Church was organized by the late Rev. Johnny Randle in November of 1970. Pastor Johnny Randle was on vacation in Shreveport Louisiana when the Lord moved on his heart to establish a church when he returned home. He immediately informed two individuals of the plan to build a church for the cause and call of Christ. These two individual were Sister Randle (Pastor's Wife) and Sister Nelson. Immediately Pastor Randle at a great financial expense to himself and family purchased a property near the corner of 39th and Normandie in Los Angeles. With Pastor Randle's carpentry skills and building knowledge he built the church single handedly. He would later realize that this would not be the church that God had intended for him to Pastor. With great generosity, he allowed Pastor Sellers to purchase the property under value and Pastor Sellers started the Christian Fellowship Mission Baptist Church which is still doing the work of the Lord today.
Pastor Randle would later drive down Compton Blvd. and be led to the site at 2201 and 2209 W. Compton Blvd. This was the site of a gas station and dry cleaners. Pastor Randle, Sis. Randle and Sister Nelson purchased the property and donated all the purchased property to the church.
Pastor Johnny Randle would change the site that once was a gas station to an edifice that would serve the community for years to come. Pastor Randle built the church with the help of members, family, friends, and others that just walked up and lend a hand. People from different nationalities and faiths lend support and encouragement. Pastor Johnny Randle was able to convey to many his passion and since of purpose. He pastured Christ St. John from November of 1972 until October 6, 1994.
Current Pastor
Pastor Stephen Randle was installed as the second pastor of Christ St. John on November 11, 1994. Pastor Randle is a graduate of California State University Dominguez Hills and holds degrees in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. Pastor Randle also holds a Juries Doctorate Degree. Being a former school teacher, the Pastor and church has dedicated itself to the Gospel message and the education of our young people. The church currently supports students that attend: Carson Christian School, Brethren High School, and Valley Christian High School.
Church Head start ProgramChrist St. John is in partnership with the Head start Program. The Head start Program offers intensive education to children from ages 2-5 years old. The program emphasizes math, science, and reading. The Head start Program is housed at the Johnny Randle Multi Purpose Faculty . Every year we service over 100 students and provide gift baskets to the most needy of our children during the holiday season. If you are interested in the program, please all (310) 537-0476.
Christian Education Program
The church sponsors several students each year that attend Christian High Schools throughout the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. These schools include: Carson Christian School, Brethren High School and Valley Christian High School. We believe it is the responsibility of Christian parents to religiously educate their children.
Building ProjectChrist St. John is currently involved in a building project that is just west of our child care facility. This project will provide housing to low income families in the church and in our community. Groundbreaking on this project will commence in February 2008.
Benevolent Fund
Christ St. John has a benevolent fund that has been beneficial in assisting several aspects of our church and community. This fund is maintained by private donations of members and friends of the church. In conjunction with Ministers In Action, we have over the years provided funds to mothers who have lost children violently. The church has also answered the call for housing assistance and have sponsored certain drug recovery programs. Should you seek to donate to this fund, your donation is greatly appreciated.
Radio Broadcast Program
Christ St. John Baptist Church has been on the radio for over 30 years. Our program is taped lived every Sunday morning and played on KTYM 1460 AM at 7:00AM. We have been able to reach many souls through this effort.
